The promise of a "Jewish National Home" led to conflicts between Jews and Arabs, with British support for the former. Nehru criticizes the British administration for turning Palestine into a de facto colony. Despite the uncertainties of the future, Nehru finds hope in the joys and beauty of life. He expresses his belief in the profound human spirit that has helped humans navigate the unknown with dignity and faith for time immemorial. Nehruji quotes Euripides at the end of this chapter. The translation is mine.
