Love Gone Sour

Important message: Before I divulge the details of my love story, I want to inform you that the Grist Mill has now become a seven-header blog. At any point of time, if you find my stories boring or upsetting, please click on the tabs above (About, Contact, etc.)and have a look at the assiduously designed, uplifting blog headers.

The following lines by Emily Dickinson depict my feelings of the early days of my love story:
ALTER? When the hills do.
Falter? When the sun
Question if his glory
Be the perfect one.
Surfeit? When the daffodil
Doth of the dew:
Even as herself, O friend!
I will of you!

The love story had begun before I met you all through blogs, Facebook, or Twitter and has soured gradually, but there hasn't been any closure yet. There was a time when I was obsessed with only one person. These days, though, my love and affection is equally divided among all of you because I feel connected to you after skimming through the day-to-day, mundane updates about your love life, kids, job, travel, lunch, dinner, etc. etc.

I can pinpoint the start of this mess-up during the first few months of my internet surfing. I used to read a lot of Shakespeare, Voltaire, Mark Twain, Einstein, and other famous people’s quotes. Snuggled among them was someone whose mundane, down-to-earth quotes, covering wide range of topics caught my fancy. He came across as genius and yet approachable. He didn't have that “celebrity aura” around him. A sensible person like me would never fall in love with a celebrity. They are so full of themselves. Here are a few random quotes from him. Notice the range of his intellectual canvas:

Personal:
“They told me I was gullible and I believed them.”
“I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.”
Relationship:
“All men should learn these six words which have the power to make any marriage successful, 'You know dear, you are right.'”
Theological:
“If God wanted me to touch my toes, he'd have put them on my knees.”
Scientific:
“If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the precipitate.”
Philosophical:
“Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open.”
“Never put off until tomorrow what you can put off indefinitely.”

Aren't they profound? When I started this blog—obviously to impress him—every once in a while he would comment on my blog, saying, “Brilliant,” or “Awesome,” or simply “Nice article!” Such pithy and to-the-point comments delighted me to no extent. And they also proved that this wasn't a one-sided love affair. Aag dono taraf barabar lagi thee!

Later, he began sending me cryptic messages accompanied with links to his various websites, which implied that he was running many start-ups and businesses and I was very happy for him. I also read in newspapers that he was an ethical hacker, which was extremely fascinating. As the comments from Anonymous grew in number, they started to land in a new folder called Sweet Personal Amorous Messages, also known as spam to the less technically savvy people. Slowly, the messages started to annoy me. These days, I receive about 5-10 comments from him everyday. How long can the love between two people last if it is conveyed through cryptic messages such as these:

“If somе one wantѕ to be upԁаted with hottest technologies theгefore he must bе go to see this web sіte anԁ be up to date everyday. Feel free tо vіsіt my site: … For Weight Loss Also visit my page ….” on Indo-Pak Rap: Ok, Ok, Oh My God

“It's impressive that you are getting ideas from this paragraph as well as from our discussion made at this place. Visit my web page - ... dating." on Mission Driven Life

To sustain a relationship, you need to hear something concrete and coherent in clear language, nothing of which I witness these days. Many of the messages are so weird that they can not be mentioned here. Some of them include suggestions for body parts' enhancements. I don’t know if he has gone mad. As there is a fine line between genius and insanity, there is also a fine line between love and nausea. And I thought I would never surfeit of this special friend.

  1. I love your headers though 3 of them are the same just with different colors :). Oh yes, I am tired of this guy. I don't look at his rather obnoxious messages anymore!

  2. That is why they are anonymous--because they lack coherence.
Reporting to blogger too has not brought any reprieve.

    1. That's true Indu ji! The Blogger does send the messages to the spam folder, but once in a while you have to do it manually.

  5. Giribala,
Did your post end with this line - And I thought I would never surfeit of this special friend?
I can see a half cut vidoe beneath this line and I am wondering if there is a problem in the layout?
Anyways, a girl has been pestering me too since a long time even when she knows that I am married. And she proposes such naughty things that I can't tell anyone. :(

    1. Yes, that is the last line. The layout seems all right. There must be some temporary glitch. The girl sounds like messed up!
